Educational Activities

We have developed a thoughtfully structured educational curriculum designed to promote intellectual development, foster critical thinking, and support sustained academic growth. Fellows have protected education time to attend all conferences and educational experiences.

Fellows at SREI

Weekly

Fellowship faculty and invited speakers teach fellows the objectives outlined in the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) Guide to Learning in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility through weekly problem-centered didactics. Invited speakers and topics span the depth and breadth of training including thyroid dysfunction taught by Medical Endocrinology, male factor infertility treatments taught by Reproductive Urology and principles of genetic testing taught by Reproductive Geneticists.

Fellows participate in our weekly IVF Team Meeting by presenting patient plans and participating in discussion regarding patients in the practice. The weekly IVF team meeting is a collaborative divisional meeting attended by our faculty, residents, IVF coordinator, financial planner and our nursing and IVF lab team members. Fellows have the opportunity to learn all aspects of safe, cost-effective, ethically appropriate and optimized medical care for individuals and couples seeking IVF. They gain experience with managing a large breadth of diagnoses from infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, minimizing genetic disorders in offspring, elective fertility preservation, fertility preservation due to cancer or gender-affirming hormone therapy, and third-party reproduction.

Monthly

Clinical fellows select and develop a brief weekly presentation on a topic, question, or learning objective of their choice that demonstrates the fellows’ ability to provide evidence-based patient care and engage in life-long learning. Faculty actively participate in these presentations and help prepare the fellow for passing the REI Certifying Exam (oral boards).

Quarterly

Fellows participate along with faculty in our quarterly Quality Assessment Conference by presenting and leading team discussions with the goal of identifying system changes that improve patient safety and care.

Departmental:

Fellows attend the Department sponsored quarterly Fellowship Friday Conference. This is a unique conference loved by fellows which is led by the Departments' education specialist, fellowship faculty, and fellowship program directors across all the OBGYN subspecialties: Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology Oncology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and Complex Family Planning. Fellows learn core research curriculum, receive coaching on scientific writing and scholarship, and explore personal and professional development through topics such as wellness, mentoring, networking, composing a Curriculum Vitae (CV), searching for a job, interviewing, and negotiating a contract.

Annually

Fellows have the opportunity to attend national REI fellow conferences, including the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI) REI Fellows Symposium, Androgen Excess and PMOS Society Annual Meeting, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS) meeting, American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), ASRM’s Embryo Transfer Simulation Certificate course, and Society for Reproductive Surgeons (SRS) Surgical Bootcamp.
