2026 Award Recipients
Dr. Andrew S. Knapp – Family Medicine Community Teaching Award
We would like to recognize the teaching contributions of community physicians who volunteer their time to teach residents on a regular basis. We are very appreciative of all their contributions to the Family Medicine Residency Program.
“Such an incredible physician and a phenomenal teacher. It is always wonderful to work with him. Exceptionally kind and a wonderful teacher. Very approachable, I always felt comfortable precepting with him and asking questions for things I felt uncomfortable about or didn’t know. Dr. Knapp is such an advocate for patients and justice. He is very knowledgeable and compassionate and a highly competent physician.”
Kara R. Repich, MD – Family Medicine OB Teaching Award
This annual award was established to honor an obstetrician/gynecologist clinician at Highland Hospital. It is granted by the Family Medicine residents to the clinician who best exemplifies excellence in clinical judgment and patient care, clinical teaching, and relating to and respecting Family Medicine residents and their ideals. A plaque with the names of all the recipients hangs in the Attending Lounge of the Obstetrics floor.

Dr. Shea Kelly-Buckley – Highland Family Medicine Women’s Health Care Award
This award is given to the Family Medicine resident who has contributed most significantly in the area of women’s health. Contributions may be clinical, research, teaching, or administrative in nature.
“Dr. K-B has shown dedication to all aspects of reproductive care during her residency. Shea is participating in the FCPC track and always goes out of her way to provide thorough and thoughtful OB care. She is a skilled OB provider and all-around clinician!”
Dr. Emily Salib – Highland Medicine Teaching Attending Award
This award is chosen by majority vote of the Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, and Family Medicine residents, in recognition of outstanding teaching of residents by a physician in Medicine. The winner’s name is engraved on a plaque that hangs in the Highland Hospital Library.
“Dr. Salib is an incredible attending and educator. I greatly appreciated her seeking out time to teach and touch base. Dr. Salib has been so incredible to learn from! Her bedside manner is the best I have ever seen; she is so kind and loving to all of her patients and also creates such a welcoming environment to learners and the rest of the medical team. She incorporates evidence-based medicine every day and is constantly learning and staying up to date on the latest studies to help her patients as best she can.”
Dr. Alissa Correll – Lovejoy Preceptor Award
This award is chosen by all the Family Medicine residents and is awarded to an outstanding academic or community faculty preceptor at Highland Family Medicine who demonstrates dedication to residency education, inspired teaching, and deep compassion for patients and residents.
“Always emphasizes at least one clinical pearl from each clinic session to reflect upon and truly appreciate. Dr. Correll is a supportive and approachable preceptor who creates a comfortable learning environment. I really appreciate her precepting approach. She helps me be more efficient while respecting my decisions and showing confidence in my clinical judgment.”
Dr. Claire Filloux – Jacob Holler MD Annual Resident Award
The Jacob Holler award was established by the Highland Hospital Board of Directors in 1983 and is presented annually to a Highland Hospital resident selected by peers who best demonstrates deep and caring concern, kindness, integrity, understanding, good humor, and inspired teaching. The STFM Resident Teaching Award recognizes residents who demonstrate interest, ability, and commitment to family medicine education.
“Dr. Filloux has always been an enthusiastic teacher of her fellow residents, especially in the GAMA academic practice at Highland. She is outstanding at sharing academic resources and clinical pearls, and I have learned things from her that have directly benefited my patients. She has gone above and beyond to discuss challenging patient encounters or clinical scenarios with me in clinic, because she genuinely enjoys primary care and supporting her co-residents. She stands out greatly for these efforts and is undoubtedly deserving of this recognition.”
Dr. Prabjot K. Batth – AFMRD Resident Awards for Scholarship and Advocacy
AFMRD Resident Award for Scholarship is given to a resident who has demonstrated skills and interest in scholarship. The AFMRD Resident Award for Advocacy recognizes a resident who has demonstrated skills and interest in advocacy.
“Dr. Batth has consistently contributed to the field both through education (grand rounds) and her sports medicine work/presentations and is worthy of this award!”
“PK has done impressive work participating in the PALT track and doing advocacy.”
Dr. Adriane Spiro – STFM Resident Teacher Award
The Resident Teacher Award recognizes teaching contributions by residents. Each family medicine residency program can give this award annually to the resident who has best demonstrated interest in and commitment to family medicine education.
“I always see her mentoring residents on every clinic corner. Dr. Spiro always seems to grab the extra opportunity to teach learners at any level in her surroundings. Excellent job engaging in teaching medical students. Dr. Spiro has provided thoughtful contributions to the educational offerings of our program throughout her time at HFM.”
Dr. Sarah Minney – Family Medicine Faculty Teaching Award
This award was first given in 1978 to Dr. Don Treat, chair of the department from 1978–87. Since that time, it has been awarded to 49 faculty members (as of 2026) and is voted on by PGY-3 residents.
Raquel Medina-Rodriguez, BA, MA – Brown Square Staff Appreciation Award
This award, established in 2006 by the Brown Square Family Medicine residents, recognizes a Brown Square staff member or clinician who has provided significant teaching and support of residents in their practices.
