The New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP) recently named Elizabeth Brown, MD, MPH, as the recipient of the 2025 Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award, which recognizes excellence in family medicine education.
 

Susan McDaniel, PhD, Steps Down as Department Vice Chair

After 23 years as Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, Susan McDaniel has stepped down from the position. In the upcoming academic year, McDaniel will continue to mentor several faculty members in the DFM and continue her leadership of the URMC Physician Communication program.
 

Leadership Team Update

Anne Nofziger has assumed the role of Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.

Tziporah Rosenberg is continuing in her role as the Senior Director for Interprofessional Practice and Education, a position she has held since July 2024.
 

Thoughts from the Chair

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been back from sabbatical now longer than I was away. 2025 has seen several departures in the department. Doug Stockman, MD, faculty in the department for 35 years, and the lead for our global health Honduras program, has retired and will stay on to lead several more resident trips. Dr. Betsy Naumburg, faculty in the department for 39 years, stepped back from her practice of decades. She will continue as medical director and do resident teaching. Dr. Michael Mendoza, faculty for 16 years, left the department for another leadership opportunity.
