Visitation for Patients Admitted to the Hospital

General Visitation for In-Patients

  • Visiting hours are between 8 a.m. and  8 p.m.
  • A patient may have two visitors at a time. 
  • All visitors must be 12 years of age or older. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult with legal identification.
  • Individuals who are sick or believe they may have COVID may not visit.
  • Visitors will be asked to attest that they are symptom/COVID free.


  • Patients with COVID: One visitor at a time is permitted for COVID-positive patients.
  • OB Patients: 
    • Before Delivery:
      • 2 support persons/visitors may be at the bedside during normal visiting hours (8 a.m. - 8 p.m.).
      • There may only be 2 persons at a time at the bedside.
      • No one under the age of 12 is permitted to visit.
    • Labor & Delivery:
      • Two support persons/visitors are allowed to be with the patient, 24/7.
      • No more than 2 persons may be visiting at the bedside at a time.
      • No one under the age of 12 is permitted to visit.
    • After Delivery:
      • Two support persons will be allowed to stay with the patient 24/7.
      • Two visitors will be allowed to visit during regular visiting hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). Multiple visitors are allowed in any day, but only 2 persons are allowed at the bedside at a time.
      • No one under the age of 12 is permitted to visit.
  • Special Care Nursery:
    • Limit of two individuals at a time at the bedside from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Two visitors, beyond the two designated support persons, may be identified per day; only one may visit at a time, always with a support person present.
    • Only one support person is permitted to spend the night.
  • End-of-life Patients: Patients who meet other criteria (e.g., end of life) may have more than two visitors at a time. This will be determined by the physician.
  • Emergency Room: 
    • Patients in the Emergency Room:
      • A patient may have multiple visitors, but only one at a time (including the Emergency Room waiting area).

      • Visiting hours are 24/7.
    • Patients in the Emergency Observation Unit:
      • A patient may have multiple visitors, but only one at a time.

      • Visiting hours are 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Guidelines for Patients Having Surgery

  • One visitor may accompany the patient through the pre-surgical process. The visitor is encouraged to leave the hospital when the patient goes into surgery, but may wait in the main lobby waiting area if it is not possible to leave and come back to the hospital once the patient is out of surgery.
  • If the patient is admitted after surgery, the visitation and exception guidelines will be followed.

Highland Procedures Center, Radiology, Cardiology & Vascular and Radiation Oncology

  • Each patient may have one support person.
  • Support person may wait in the sitting area by the appointment.

When You Visit in the Hospital: Guidelines to Follow

  • Wash your hands often: Wash with soap for at least 20 seconds and use sanitizer – ask for some if none is available to you.
  • Individuals who are sick or suspected of having COVID may not visit.
  • Check in and check out in the main lobby. 
    • Use public restrooms; not the bathrooms in the patient rooms.
    • Check out in the main lobby when exiting the hospital.
  • When you check in, you will receive a visitor pass – which is only a one-day pass.
  • Stay in the patient’s room: no walking in the halls unless necessary. If you smoke, please bring nicotine replacement.
