Be able to knowledgably discuss differences between United States Preventive Task Force Services recommendations for chronic disease (cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease) prevention and screening and specialty or health-advocacy organization based recommendations. PMRY1 Objectives
Observe and participate in giving a presentation regarding these factors for one or all of these diseases to fellow professionals, medical students, and/or the general public.
PMRY2 Objectives
Independently present or lead a discussion amongst your colleagues about the differences between recommendations and the possible reasons for them.
Learn about recommended health behaviors and counseling for such behaviors related to cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease prevention. (ACGME Competencies: Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Professionalism)
PMRY1 Objectives
Observe and participate in applying the above knowledge to develop or operate a program to increase activities that reduce the risk of one or more of these diseases and in communicating this plan to stakeholders. (e.g. Give a talk and participate in a “Walk with a Doc” session or a Healthy Living Session)
Observe and participate in investigating laws or policies that would discourage activities that increase the risk of these diseases, and/or encourage activities that reduce burden of these diseases.
Observe and participate in Self-Determination Theory based counseling for smoking cessation, weight management and/or cholesterol control.

Observe and participate in community collaborative meetings on initiatives to improve a specific aspect of the community’s health with leaders of the community and business leaders.
Observe and participate in meetings of the CCH staff and/or leadership with various departments of the medical center or various faculty members to assist them in their outreach to the community.
PMRY2 Objectives
Participate in community collaborative meetings with members of the community exploring or developing a specific activity or policy to improve the health of the community.
Independently present information to a community collaborative meeting to assist with their activities.
Participate in community collaborative meetings on initiatives to improve a specific aspect of the community’s health with leaders of the community and business leaders.

Learn about how the nation and localities track emerging infectious diseases, particularly nosocomial and antibiotic resistant diseases (ACGME Competencies: Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Systems-Based Practices, Professionalism)
PMRY1 & 2 Objectives combined
Observe and participate in staff meetings with the part of CCH responsible for tracking these diseases in the community.
Talk with leadership of CCH regarding the programs and grants available for tracking theses diseases.
Participate in data gathering activities for filing a case report of one of the diseases tracked
Optional: Independently perform your capstone project or MPH thesis using data from CCH’s tracking of infectious diseases in the community.
