Welcome to the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center. For potential URMC trainees, I hope the information provided on our shared websites will prove useful in making the important decision regarding your post-graduate education.

The primary mission of our Residency Program is to provide an engaging and supportive environment for the training of our colleagues in Radiology. As a resident, you will be exposed to all the subspecialties within Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology. The trainee will be exposed to a diverse patient population—from "bread-and-butter" cases to complex congenital anatomy to transplant evaluations and oncologic interventions. Through the combination of outstanding and dedicated clinical and research faculty, state-of-the-art technology, and wide range of diseases and disorders encountered in our referral population of western New York at the end of 4 years the residents have been exposed to just about everything. Through 4 years, the trainee will acquire skills necessary for efficient analysis, precise interpretation, and clear communication of results to referring physicians of patient exams.

Research is strongly encouraged--the faculty have many of their own projects requiring collaborators or will act as mentors for your interesting project. URMC is a leading academic medical institution which is ranked 15th in federal research funding among the 176 top funded research universities, with more than $400 million in total sponsored research during each of the prior two years and $348 million in 2012. Our trainees benefit from collaboration with other top-ranked clinical departments such as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Surgery.

Our greatest asset is our trainees—our residents, fellows, and medical students. It is a joy to come in to work with all of these people interested, interesting, and engaged in expanding the world of Radiology. Whatever direction your future path takes you, educational, clinical, research, administrative or a combination of these interests and activities, you will be well mentored by our team.

We welcome you to Rochester and URMC and hope that you take the time to explore the unique opportunities available here. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions about the department, institution, Rochester, or western New York.

Sincerely,

Susan K. Hobbs, M.D., Ph.D.
