Program-Sponsored Activities

NGP students are expected to participate in program-sponsored functions in addition to their own department/center-sponsored activities and seminars. Such program-sponsored functions include

  • Annual Retreat: The NGP sponsors an all-day retreat for students, postdocs, and faculty from across the University who share an interest in neuroscience. The retreat, planned by students and faculty, is typically held in the Spring at an off-campus site, and all NGP students are required to attend. Planned absences must be approved by the program directors.
  • DMIN Seminar Series: The Del Monte Institute of Neuroscience sponsors two named lectureships (Doty and Notter) as well as several seminars throughout the year that bring visiting scientists from around the world to the University to present their latest research findings. Students are encouraged to nominate speakers which the DMIN Committee reviews. All NGP students are required to attend the two named lectures and their choice of two other DMIN lectures per semester. Not attending the named lectureships will count against unexcused absences the student receives for NSC 503 Student Seminar.
  • Neuroscience Luncheons: The program sponsors a luncheon for NGP graduate students’ multiple times during the academic year. In addition to free food and drink, the lunch provides a forum for students to discuss topics related to graduate education with the NGP directors and other guests
  • NGP Qualifying Exam and Thesis Defense Seminars: All NGP students are highly encouraged to attend these special presentations to support their colleagues as they pass through important milestones in their training
