Important Applicant Information
The Summer Scholars Program is aimed at providing research opportunities in all aspects of Biological, Biomedical, and Health Research to undergraduates who may be considering applying to graduate (PhD) programs. The following groups of applicants are encouraged to apply for this program:
- Matriculated sophomores and juniors that are US citizens, permanent resident aliens or foreign students with visas from their host institutions.
- Students from groups that are under-represented in the biological sciences. These groups include students with disabilities, students from certain racial/ethnic groups (see below), first-generation college students and individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
NIH recognizes racial/ethnic groups that are significantly underrepresented at advanced levels of science and engineering in the U.S. to be as follows: Native Americans (including American Indians and Alaskan Natives), African-Americans, Hispanics, and Native Pacific Islanders.
- Students with a potential interest in attending graduate school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
2023 Summer Program Dates
Tuesday, May 30 - Friday, August 4
(subject to change pending Covid-19 pandemic restrictions).
Participants are expected to commit to full-time effort (40 hours/week) for the full duration of the program. This program does not accommodate concurrent employment or vacation release time due to its timeline and research intensity.
Application Deadline
All application material must be received by February 28, 2023. Submitting your application early is encouraged.
