ADSE: Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering
The ADSE: Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering mission is to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in academia, industry, and government through graduate student organizations that reach out to students and scientists of all ages and backgrounds. The local chapter is working to establish a lecture series to bring underrepresented faculty from other universities to Rochester. ADSE provides a space where underrepresented graduate students in STEM fields from across the University can meet, network, and hold workshops and panels to openly discuss the issues they face.
Brain Awareness Campaign
The University of Rochester’s Brain Awareness Campaign is a community outreach program sponsored by the Rochester Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.
Daybreakers Toastmasters Club
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. The University of Rochester club meets twice per month. To inquire about the local club, visit the daybreakers website.
Graduate Student Society (GSS)
The Graduate Student Society is an organization that supports the graduate students in the School of Medicine and Dentistry and exists to coordinate social events, organize charity/volunteer activities in the community and honor outstanding faculty and students within the SMD.
Graduate Students of Color (GSOC)
Graduate Students of Color aims to raise awareness in regard to inclusion in higher education throughout the community and the University by serving as a voice and advocate for students of color regarding University policies. The group promotes and offers academic, professional, and social programming for graduate students from underrepresented heritage background, and provides a forum for topics addressing the racial and ethnic diversity of the Rochester graduate student population.
Graduates Working in Science (GWIS)
Graduates Working In Science provides mentoring for the professional and personal development of all graduates at the University of Rochester Medical Center and College of Arts and Sciences.
International Students and Scholars Association (ISSA)
A student-led organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for international students and scholars at SMD. We recognize the unique challenges faced by international students, including social integration, cultural assimilation, and navigating complex immigration rules. ISSA'smission is to provide comprehensive support, promote cultural exchange, and empower our members to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.
The Liaison Project
The Liaison Project is a trainee-led organization within the School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) that provides graduate students, medical trainees, and postdoctoral fellows with the opportunity to practice the skills of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Medical Affairs professionals. Through structured clinical trial presentations, group discussions, and peer-to-peer scientific exchange, members will engage in real-world style dialogues that mirror the interactions between industry medical teams and healthcare professionals.

The Meliora Collective for URochester Student and Alumni Networking goes beyond what social media networks offer - an exclusive University of Rochester community of alumni, students, parents, and friends who want to make meaningful connections for personal and professional exploration and growth.
Microphysiological Systems Network
The Microphysiological Systems Network exists for students working in and/or are interested in learning about microphysiological systems (MPS) such as organ models, tissues chips, microfluidic systems. Our purpose is to connect MPS student researchers at the University of Rochester and foster a community that supports the intellectual and professional development of research trainees in these fields.
outGRADS
outGRADS @ URochester is a campus-wide graduate/postdoctoral student organization dedicated to forming a community of sexual and gender minorities (SGM), including, but not limited to, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, genderqueer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, pansexual, and other identities across the spectrum, and their allies. Formation of this community is aimed at fostering personal and professional relationships and development among SGM at the University of Rochester.

Postdoctoral Association (PDA)
The Postdoctoral Association was established in 2006 to provide career development and networking opportunities, as well as professional recognition specifically for postdoctoral appointees. Through these efforts the PDA hopes to contribute to the professional advancement of postdoctoral appointees and highlight the contributions of postdoctoral appointees to scientific research at the University of Rochester.

RYSC: Rochester Young Scientists Club
The RYSC: Rochester Young Scientists Club focus is to engage fifth and sixth grade students in science experiences that promote science as a profession.
SMD Entrepreneurs
SMD Entrepreneurs provides a platform for entrepreneurial minded trainees to explore developing a business based on their interests. The group provides resources including connecting with entrepreneurial leaders in the finger lakes and western, NY regions as well as esteemed URochester alumni all over the country. Practice pitches and get feedback on business model development. Join us and gain some valuable entrepreneurial skills!
Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)
The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists from college students to professionals to attain advanced degrees, career, and positions of leadership. SACNAS's overall goal is to create a nurturing environment in which all members of the chapter can grow together by helping each other and working together towards acquiring the right tools and resources that will advance our development and increase the success of our scientific careers.
Sustainable Labs Initiative
The Sustainable Labs Initiative (SLI) is a grassroots community organization dedicated to fostering a culture of sustainability within research and clinical laboratories at the University of Rochester. By addressing the environmental impact of laboratory practices, we aim to foster eco-conscious research, reduce waste, enhance resource efficiency, and implement sustainable solutions to ensure a healthier planet.
Susan B. Anthony Institute
The Susan B. Anthony Institute, based on the River Campus, supports the research and curricular development of graduate students whose work focuses on gender and women's studies.
Graduate students, postdocs and PREP trainees may all take advantage of the Institute's many events and faculty research seminars.
URochester Microbiome
URochester Microbiome is a group of trainees, PIs, faculty, staff, and physicians who have a shared interest in microbiome research. Our current membership spans the disciplines of microbiology and immunology, toxicology, translational biomedical sciences, pediatrics, oral biology and biostatistics.
URochester Science Policy Initiative
The URochester Science Policy Initiative is a group of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows that are passionate about science and public policy.
We organize various skill building events and workshops so that trainees can get hands on experience with science policy. In addition, we host seminars to facilitate discussion about science policy, better understand key issues that the nation and local government is facing and provide an opportunity to explore different career paths.
URochester Thinkers
URochester Thinkers is a communication club made by graduate students at the University of Rochester. All kinds of disciplines — from English Literature to Optics to Biology — come together once a month to chat with strangers over drinks. We don't have an agenda or speeches, just an interest in making conversation. We typically buy the bar a bunch of food and make ourselves available for chatting.
URochester Writing
Scientific writing is the cornerstone of success in academia. URochester Writing is a trainee-led program that aims to provide comprehensive writing support for URMC graduate students and postdocs. Through this program, we hope to help our fellow trainees become productive and prolific writers and to succeed academically and professionally.
