A collaboration among Michael Potchen, a professor of imaging sciences, URMC Imaging residents, and the Zambian Ministry of Health aims to address the lack of Zambian radiologists by training Zambian medical school graduates in radiology.

UR Medicine Introduces Digital PET/CT Technology at Outpatient Imaging Center

UR Medicine has begun using Upstate New York's first digital PET/CT system which offers higher quality images faster and more safely and comfortably than ever before. With the new system, PET scans are performed simultaneously with CT scans, which reveal the location of diseases within the body. The combined imaging study offers both types of scans in a single exam.

Vikram Dogra Honored by the Indian Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Society

Vikram S. Dogra, MBBS, professor of Imaging Sciences, was conferred with Honorary Membership of the Indian Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Society at the 26th Annual Conference in India on Nov. 3, 2017. He is the second recipient of this honor in the history of the society for his contribution in promoting radiology and ultrasound education globally. Dogra is also a professor of Radiology, Urology and Biomedical Engineering; Associate Chair of Education & Research; and Director of Ultrasound.

UR Medicine Opens Neuromedicine and Behavioral Health Center for Pediatric Patients

UR Medicine’s new 90,000-square-foot, three-story building, located at 200 East River Road, has created space to relocate outpatient imaging, interventional radiology clinics as well as autism/neuromedicine/behavioral health pediatric programs from the University of Rochester Medical Center campus to an easily accessible location along the I-390 corridor.

Nuclear Medicine Physicist, UR Alum David A. Weber, Ph.D., Dies

David Weber

Nuclear medicine physicist David A. Weber, Ph.D., who worked at University of Rochester Medical Center from 1970 to 1987, died at his Pittsford home March 31. He was 77.

Weber was a scientist, educator, and an international expert in radiation dose measurement during his long career. At URMC, he served as an associate professor in the Department of Radiology, now called Imaging Sciences, and acting chief of the Division of Nuclear Medicine from 1974-1975.

Trio of Imaging Sciences Faculty Pen Award-Winning Medical Book

A new reference guide to diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging, penned by three Imaging Sciences faculty members, was recognized as the best medical book of 2015 by the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE). Gary Hollenberg, M.D., associate professor of Imaging Sciences, Eric Weinberg, M.D., associate professor of Imaging Sciences, and Steven Meyers, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Imaging Sciences, Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology, received the 2016 PROSE Award for Clinical Medicine for Differential Diagnosis in Musculoskeletal MRI.

UR Medicine Breast Imaging at Red Creek and Cancer Services Program of Monroe County have partnered to offer free screening mammograms on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon for women age 40 and older who do not have insurance or who have a high deductible plan and need assistance. Appointments, which can be scheduled by calling (585) 487-3304, are required.
