Cole Lab
Research in the Cole lab focuses on investigating toxicities associated with Pancreatic cancer and Rheumatoid arthritis. In particular, we utilize novel, longitudinal imaging techniques such as bioluminescence imaging (BLI) and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), along with combined techniques such as CRISPR gene editing, transcriptomics, proteomics, tissue culture, and histology to investigate the molecular mechanisms of disease-related skeletal muscle wasting.

How does mentorship shape you as a scientist and as a person? In this episode of Learners on Location, Assistant Professor Calvin Cole, PhD, and fifth-year PhD student Zach Sechrist share how mentorship at the University of Rochester goes beyond the lab. From studying cancer cachexia (muscle wasting in cancer patients) to building habits around fitness, mental health, and personal growth, their relationship highlights how taking care of yourself can lead to stronger research and greater impact.
