Welcome to the PAIR Lab
Personal AI is rapidly entering everyday life—through phones, wearables, smart home devices, and emerging platforms we are only beginning to understand. These technologies will reshape mental health—how we relate, how we cope, how we live.
With social media, we learned the cost of waiting until after mass adoption to study impacts. We now have a chance to do it differently: to anticipate change, ask hard questions early, and help shape how these technologies develop.
The PAIR Lab is an interdisciplinary research initiative at the University of Rochester, associated with the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide. Our mission is to advance the understanding of how personal AI and robotics can support mental health and suicide prevention through rigorous, collaborative, and ethically grounded research.
