Cultural-Social Engagement and Suicide Among Hispanics
The Cultural-Social Engagement and Suicide study is an early-stage clinical trial funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. The purpose of this study is to test whether a self-guided versus individual coaching program helps Spanish-speaking adults aged 18 and older feel more connected to other people in ways that are culturally meaningful. Procedures include participating in a self-guided or coaching program, research assessments with surveys, and assessments completed on a cell phone. The coaching involves individual sessions with a trained coach (up to 10 sessions over 12 weeks) that are designed to help participants improve cultural-social connections and well-being. All subjects will receive the scheduled baseline and follow-up interviews by the research team. These interviews will be conducted at study start, mid-way through the program at 6 weeks, and after completing the program at 12 and 24 weeks. Interviews will be via Zoom/phone, as well as surveys done online. We are asking participants to complete daily assessments via Android smartphones to tell use about their daily experiences. We will examine whether daily experiences change as a result of the self-guided or coaching program. ALL STUDY PROCEDURES ARE CONDUCTED IN SPANISH.
