We are currently developing a computational framework for exploring functional network connectivity and analyzing information transfer in the human brain, while simultaneously circumventing the inevitable information loss induced by contemporary techniques.

We are investigating the role that texture features can play in characterizing the trabecular bone micro-architecture of the proximal femur or tibia, and spinal vertebrae, as visualized through multi-detector CT (MDCT) or MRI. We are particularly interested in using such texture features, indicative of local topology or geometry of underlying bone tissue structures, as quantitative measures for predicting bone strength.

While the application of texture analysis to CADx tools for lesion classification on dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) has been previously investigated, we specifically focus on texture features that can characterize the lesion enhancement pattern on small lesions, where characteristic properties are harder to detect.

We are investigating the use of texture features derived from several different approaches involving gray-level statistics, topological or geometrical features in characterizing pathological patterns indicative of interstitial lung disease, as visualized on high-resolution CT. Our goal is to use such quantitative measures for automated classification of healthy and diseased lung tissue.

Phase contrast X-Ray Computed Tomography (PCI-CT) is a novel imaging technique that provides soft-tissue discrimination in cartilage tissue at a micrometer scale resolution. We are currently investigating the use of texture features that characterize properties of the cartilage matrix (visualized with PCI-CT) as imaging bio-markers for tracking osteoarthritis progression.
