Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

Neutrophil Immunobiology and Antigen Presentation

Laboratory of Dr. Tanya N. Mayadas
Chair of Microbiology and Immunology
Pichichero Director, Institute for Immunological Sciences (IIS)
University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC)

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tanya N. Mayadas to investigate the emerging role of neutrophils as antigen-presenting cells and orchestrators of adaptive immunity in the context of cancer and autoimmune kidney disease, including lupus nephritis. This project will explore how neutrophils can be reprogrammed to shape T cell responses and influence disease progression, with the long-term goal of developing new immunotherapeutic strategies. The successful candidate will employ a combination of molecular biology, immunology, and in vivo disease models to define the mechanisms by which neutrophils acquire antigen-presenting capacity and interact with other immune cells within complex tissue environments.

Research areas include:

  • Mechanisms that enable neutrophils to function as antigen-presenting cells
  • Neutrophil–T cell interactions in the tumor microenvironment and autoimmune kidney disease
  • Development of neutrophil-targeted immunotherapies
  • Immune regulation in cancer and glomerulonephritis models

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent in immunology or a related biomedical discipline. The ideal candidate will have strong training in experimental immunology and experience in several of the following areas:

  • Molecular biology approaches including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
  • Biochemistry and protein analysis
  • Mouse models of disease, particularly cancer or autoimmune models
  • Flow cytometry and immune cell phenotyping

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in neutrophil biology
  • Experience working with primary human neutrophils
  • Advanced imaging approaches or spatial analysis of immune responses

Research Environment

The Mayadas laboratory is part of the Institute for Immunological Sciences (IIS) at the University of Rochester Medical Center, a rapidly growing interdisciplinary initiative integrating immunology across cancer, infectious disease, autoimmunity, and systems immunology. Fellows benefit from:

  • A highly collaborative immunology community
  • Access to state-of-the-art platforms, including single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, human tissue-on-a chip, advanced imaging, and flow cytometry
  • Opportunities to engage with translational and interdisciplinary collaborations across URMC, the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and bioengineering and computational groups
  • Strong mentorship and career development within a vibrant academic environment

The University of Rochester fosters an inclusive and collaborative scientific community and provides an outstanding environment for scientific training and innovation.
