EMG Lab Services
The EMG Lab provides comprehensive and detailed testing many of which are not available elsewhere. Adult and pediatric patients are welcome at both locations. Services offered include:
-
Neuromuscular Consultation - A directed neuromuscular examination is always performed, and a clinical and electrodiagnosis is provided. If the referring physician requests further therapeutic advice, the neuromuscular consultation is an option.
-
Motor nerve conduction studies - provides quantitative information about motor nerve fibers in patients with focal or generalized muscle weakness
-
Sensory nerve conduction studies - provides quantitative information about sensory nerve fibers in patients with focal or generalized sensory symptoms
-
Late responses: F and H responses - provides quantitative information concerning proximal nerve segments not easily assessed with motor and sensory nerve studies
-
Repetitive nerve stimulation studies - useful in diagnosis of muscle weakness due to disorders of the neuromuscular junction (eg. myasthenia gravis, Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome)
-
Routine qualitative needle electromyography - useful in assessing the state of the motor unit, and in distinguishing muscle weakness from peripheral nerve, nerve root or anterior horn cell diseases from those caused by muscle diseases
-
Single Fiber electromyography - helpful in documenting neuromuscular junction disorders (eg. myasthenia gravis) when repetitive nerve stimulation is normal
-
Skin biopsy - for evaluation of cutaneous sensory unmyelinated pain fibers in patients with small fiber sensory neuropathy not detectable on routine nerve conduction studies
-
Digital and video photography - documents neurologic findings
