How to Apply

The application period for the 2023-2025 fellowship is closed. For fellowships starting on July 1, 2025, the application period will open on August 1, 2024 and end on October 31, 2024.

Apply online using the ASM portal for a CPEP Clinical Fellowship in Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology.

See CPEP's “Essentials and Guidelines of an Accredited Postgraduate Fellowship Program in Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology” for additional details.

Eligibility Requirements

CPEP Fellowships are open to postdoctoral-level candidates (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Sc.D., D.O., and Dr. P.H.); however, Doctorates of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (DCLS), Pharmacy (PharmD), or Health Sciences are not acceptable for admission to a CPEP-accredited program.

Desirable prerequisites for the postgraduate training programs may include some of the following: courses in epidemiology, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, histology, pathogenesis of infection and statistics.

Previous work experience in medical and/or public health diagnostic laboratories may be considered when evaluating candidates for the program but is not considered a requirement to apply for CPEP fellowships. A track record of academic achievement (including publications) is generally considered essential.

U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
