Sixth Annual Quality Day Showcases Lean Projects
Members of the Quality Assurance Division of the URMC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine hosted the Sixth Annual Quality Day on Monday, April 25.
The event, which kicked off Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Week, included a series of morning presentations in the Class of ’62 Auditorium followed by a lunch and roundtable sessions in LeChase Assembly Hall.
Five Lean practitioners from the department presented their projects aimed at eliminating waste of time and resources and improving efficiency in the workplace. Presenters included: Christine Cahill (Patient Blood Management), Melissa Allen (Inpatient Phlebotomy Quality Initiative), Jessica Wahl (Exception Handling Process Improvement), Vicki VanDeWalle (Wilmot Cancer Center Partnership), and Scott Musial (Urine Specimen Collection).
The morning session also included an interactive RL Solutions tutorial by Deborah Congdon and an overview of UR Medicine Labs’ regional healthcare model, as presented by Judy Sterry and Jim Borrelli.
The afternoon roundtable talks focused on quality assurance topics: conducting an internal root cause analysis (RCA), laboratory codes, and how to succeed in a regulatory environment.
A video of the morning presentations is now available to view online.
