I obtained my acute care nurse practitioner degree, with emphasis in critical care, in 2006. I returned to the cardiovascular intensive care unit in April 2014 (having also worked here July 2006 through August 2009), where I care for critically ill individuals recovering from open heart surgery including bypass, valve surgery, left ventricular assist device implantation, and heart transplant. Our patient population is very high acuity, which requires me to use critical thinking skills daily. We also utilize extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy for our sickest patients, as a bridge to recovery or advanced heart failure therapies.
