I obtained my acute care nurse practitioner degree, with emphasis in critical care, in 2006. I The majority of my career has been spent as an ACNP in the Cardiac ICU at URMC, where I care for critically ill individuals recovering from open heart surgery including bypass, valve surgery, left ventricular assist device implantation, and heart transplant. Our patient population is very high acuity, which requires me to use critical thinking skills daily. We also utilize extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy for our sickest patients, as a bridge to recovery or advanced heart failure therapies. Being one of the most senior members of our team, I am also responsible for educating and orienting APP students and new orientees. I am involved in various committees, and a key member of developing and updating order sets.

I am currently working on a project in the CICU developing a standard securement device for ECMO cannulas in the neck. This work is important to prevent cannula dislodgment or damage and improve patient comfort.
