Dr. Segundo Sergio Robert-Ibarra is a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience helping children, teens, and families navigate emotional and behavioral challenges. Originally from Paraguay, Dr. Robert-Ibarra completed his medical training there before moving to the United States, where he completed his psychiatric residency and child psychiatry fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Robert-Ibarra has a special interest in working with young people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, identity issues, trauma, and complex family dynamics. He has advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and mentalization-based treatment—approaches that help people better understand their thoughts and feelings and improve their relationships with others.

Before moving to Rochester, Dr. Robert-Ibarra spent ten years at the Menninger Clinic, a nationally recognized psychiatric hospital, where he worked with adolescents and adults facing a wide range of mental health concerns. He has also been involved in teaching and supervising other mental health professionals and has a strong interest in how mental health care systems can be improved for everyone.

Currently, Dr. Robert-Ibarra serves as Chief of Acute Services and Medical Director at Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center, part of the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Robert-Ibarra is passionate about creating safe, inclusive, and compassionate care environments—especially for LGBTQ youth and families dealing with complex or “hard-to-solve” problems. He believes in working collaboratively with families, schools, and care teams to support each child’s unique path toward healing and growth.
