Emily Darling is a senior clinical instructor of Ophthalmology at the Flaum Eye Institute and part of the Optometry and Well Eye Care Service. She is a talented and compassionate clinician who diagnoses and treats a variety of medical eye conditions and co-manages complex patients with FEI specialty ophthalmologists and surgeons.

A Buffalo, NY native, Dr. Darling’s journey as an optometrist began when she graduated from the State University of New York, Binghamton, with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then completed her Doctor of Optometry degree with a contact lens micro credential at the State University of New York College of Optometry. During her optometry training, she gained clinical experience in academic practice, the Veterans Administration System, and private optometry offices. Upon receiving her medical license, she completed an additional year of training in ocular disease and primary care optometry at the University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute, where she joined the faculty after finishing the program. During her studies, Dr. Darling has made presentations and lectured at regional and national meetings and has performed community outreach through vision screenings.

She enjoys working with a wide range of patients from school-aged children to seniors. As a comprehensive optometrist, she provides a wide range of services, including thorough eye examinations with spectacle prescribing, contact lens fittings, and the diagnosis and management of ocular conditions such as diabetes, dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and surgical co-management of cataracts. She also addresses urgent eye concerns, including eye injuries and infections.
