Dr. Eric MacMaster is a board-certified child & adolescent and adult psychiatrist with over a decade of experience in the field. Prior to joining the faculty at University of Rochester Medical Center, Dr. MacMaster practiced at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he also completed medical school, residency, and fellowship training.

In addition to a passion for pediatric consultation liaison work, he has prior experience in graduate medical education, having served as the Child Psychiatry Fellowship Program Director at SUNY Upstate for 8 years before coming to Rochester. During that time, he also supervised many fellows and residents in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. He has a passion for teaching, both formally and on the wards and enjoys applying these tenets to real world mental health care.

As part of his prior clinical position, he worked as a consultant child psychiatrist at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, maintained an outpatient private practice clinic for sexual minority patients (working closely with Adolescent Medicine and Adult & Pediatric Urology services), and provided telepsychiatry services to a community-based clinic in Northern New York. He was also part of the NY State Office of Mental Health Project TEACH program, having co-authored publications/poster presentations and given multiple training lectures through this organization. A firm believer in furthering knowledge in clinical work, with an eye toward preventative care, he has published case reports as well as facilitating workshop presentations at AACAP Annual meetings.

Since joining the Department of Psychiatry at University of Rochester, he will serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation Liaison service at the University of Rochester Medical Center as well as seeing youth at CPEP and Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center. He is also an Interim Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Rochester.

Dr. MacMaster approaches clinical work with a belief in the importance of appreciating the biopsychosocial model and strives to provide inclusive and holistic care. His professional interests include LGBTQIA+ mental health, childhood depression & anxiety, multicultural issues, preventative mental health associated with social determinants of health, family systems, collaborative/multidisciplinary care, and pediatric psychotherapy.
