Biography

Professional Background

Robert G. Holloway Jr., MD, MPH, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Holloway received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Connecticut. His clinical training included an internship at the University of Connecticut, followed by Neurology Residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. After completing his residency in 1993, Dr. Holloway joined the University of Rochester faculty as a Senior Instructor while pursuing a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in health services and outcomes research, which he received in 1996. Dr. Holloway is double-boarded, with dual certification in both Neurology and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for his excellence as a physician, among which are the Medical Center Board Excellence Award as part of the Palliative Care Team, University of Rochester Nominee for the Association of American Medical Colleges Humanism in Medicine Award, and named to Best Doctors in America for 2007-12. In addition to being a dedicated physician, Dr. Holloway's commitment to excellence in teaching has received extensive recognition through numerous awards, among which are the Harry L. Segal Prize for Excellence in Third Year Teaching from the University of Rochester, Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology, Junior Faculty Mentoring Award, and Alpha Omega Alpha Faculty Inductee. He is an equally passionate researcher, focusing on areas related to technology assessment and cost-effectiveness of neurological practices and policies, as well as methods for improving quality and safety of medical care, and conflicts of interest in research and practice. He has written more than 120 manuscripts and editorials, and is also co-editor of the books Case Studies in Neuroscience and Primer of Palliative Care.

Research

Dr. Holloway's major research interests are technology assessment and cost-effectiveness of neurological practices and policies, methods to improve the quality and safety of medical care, and conflicts of interest in research and practice.
