UR Medicine Neurology brings together an incredible team of neurologists, scientists, nurses, social workers, neuropsychologists, therapists, trainees, and staff who are singularly focused on making a difference in the lives of people with neurological disorders. Whether it is to partner with patients and families to treat symptoms and ease suffering or to be the beacon of hope and optimism for the future, we aim to treat every patient like our only patient. Whether it is to passionately pursue cures for stroke or Parkinson’s Disease or to advance our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease or brain cancer, we seek the truth to benefit others.

Education & Training Programs

UR Medicine's Approach

Our divisions and clinical services bring together physicians, fellows, residents, and nurse practitioners to treat patients with common neurological conditions (such as stroke or epilepsy) and those with rare conditions (such as ataxia).

We work as a team with specialists in Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Pediatrics, and Physical Rehabilitation when needed.

The department is rich with dedicated faculty, an outstanding blend of academic and clinical training, exposure to nationally recognized specialists and a supportive environment provide residents with the opportunity to truly excel in their fields.

We are leaders in stroke care, and are a New York State designated Stroke Center. Our Mobile Stroke Unit, an ambulance solely focused on patients with stroke symptoms, was the first launched in Upstate and Central New York. The unit provides specialized, life-saving care to stroke victims before they even get to the hospital.

UR Medicine Neurology includes the Women's Center for Neurological Care, a specialized center that provides our region’s women with neurological conditions excellence in care with respect to the unique challenges that women face over the course of a lifetime. We focus on gender differences in our evaluation, diagnosis and care of women with neurological disorders. This center has three areas of emphasis: clinical care, research development and patient and provider education.
