Our rehabilitation unit at Strong Memorial Hospital has special expertise in the region that cares for spinal cord injury (SCI) patients with past participation in the SCI Model Systems of Care.

Patient Education & Support
Brain Injury Support Group
UR Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is partnering with a local community-based organization, Empowering People’s Independence, to host a brain injury support group for both survivors and their loved ones. This support group was created with the intention of strengthening the community of support for all those touched by this condition to promote overall encouragement, comfort, and hope through what can be a very isolating experience. We are here to offer support - our community is not in this alone.
Spinal Cord Injury/Disability Support Groups
UR Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is partnering with the Rochester Spinal Association (RSA) to offer a variety of support groups for both persons with Spinal Cord Injury/Disability (SCI/D) and their loved ones. These support groups were created with the intention of strengthening the community of support for all those touched by this condition to promote overall encouragement, information sharing, and support for the life changes that often follow SCI/D. Three support groups are offered: General Support for all interested, Care Giver Support, and Victims of Violence.
