I decided to become a physician because I strongly believe that everyone deserves a fair and just opportunity to be healthier. I chose Internal Medicine because I was drawn to the complexity of undifferentiated illness, building relationships with patients and helping people attain their personal health goals. People deserve to have the tools to make decisions based on the best evidence and I see my role in helping them navigate and understand the vast amount of information regarding both illness and wellness. In the field of Internal Medicine, we are often faced with problems that do not have clear answers. I try to model humility, curiosity, and a positive attitude when faced with a difficult problem.

My role as an educator is important to my practice as well and helps to ensure I stay up to date with the most recent literature. I serve as a preceptor for both medical students and residents of our Internal Medicine Program, supervising their practice and teaching through didactics and lectures. I am passionate about education, particularly in the areas of women’s health, obesity, and evidence-based medicine. My teaching philosophy is that we are all learners and teachers. It is important that we recognize that while many things that are unknown, we can view these challenges as exciting opportunities, instead of causing fear or shame. I hope my students will learn to see each challenge as an opportunity to learn.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time in the finger lakes, downhill skiing, reading, and baking with my friends and family, particularly my husband, two children and dog.
