Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Friedman received her BSM, MD, and MPH degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed her residency in General Internal Medicine at Hopkins Bayview in Baltimore, before doing a 3-year Geriatrics fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. After 5 years on faculty at Johns Hopkins, based at Hopkins Bayview, she moved to the University of Rochester in 2000. Her research focuses on health services and outcomes research, and includes models of long-term care, falls and fractures in older adults, comorbidity, and healthy aging. She was one of the first group of physicians in the US to be board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine in 2017, and has focused recent clinical, teaching, program development, and research efforts on fostering healthy aging through Lifestyle Medicine. In July 2021, she was named as the founding director of the new Highland Hospital DOM Lifestyle Medicine program.
