Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Thompson Stone is a pediatric neurologist who cares for children with all neurological disorders. In addition, he has special expertise in caring for (1) children with immune conditions affecting the neurologic system (multiple sclerosis and related demyelinating disorders), (2) children with inherited disorders of white matter (leukodystrophy), and (3) treatment of neurologic symptoms in children diagnosed with brain tumors. He currently serves as Director of the Pediatric Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis Program and Director of the UR Leukodystrophy Care Center.

He went to medical school at New York University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society member). He went on to study adult and child neurology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and graduated from residency in June 2011. Since then he has been been on faculty at the University of Rochester in the departments of Neurology and Pediatrics.

Dr. Thompson Stone is highly active in medical education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He serves as Director of the Child Neurology Residency Program, and Director of the medical student neurology clerkship. He has a significant amount of teaching experience, and was awarded one of the Dean's Teaching Fellowships from 2012 - 2014. In addition, he has developed specific expertise in the area of diversity and inclusion leadership, completing the University of Rochester Inclusive Climate Leadership from 2018-2020. He is Director of the PreDoc program at the University that is a 2?year longitudinal experience with the goal of promoting exposure and interest in academic clinical medicine among high school and college level students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in medicine.
