Eric Logigian, M.D.

Professional Background

Director of the neuromuscular electrodiagnostic laboratory at URMC, and former unit chief for the neuromuscular division, Dr Logigian has devoted his career to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neuromuscular disease, particularly patients with focal and generalized neuropathies. As Professor of Neurology, and Program Director for the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship, he also plays a major role in training Neurology residents and fellows in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neuromuscular disease. His research interests have focused on development of electrodiagnostic techniques for patients with various focal and generalized neuropathies as well as measurement of myotonia in myotonic myopathies.
After undergraduate training in mathematics at Cornell University, Dr. Logigian obtained his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, and completed an internal medicine residency at the Beth Israel Hospital followed by neurology training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Massachusetts. He did clinical neurophysiology training at MGH and in Dusseldorf Germany before becoming an attending physician first at the New England Medical Center in Boston, and then at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. In 1998, he joined the neurology department, neuromuscular division in Rochester where he has been a busy neuromuscular clinician in the Neuropathy clinic, applied electrophysiologist in the URMC EMG Laboratory, teacher, administrator, and clinical researcher. He is boarded in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Logigian has published over 170 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and book chapters on various aspects of neuromuscular diseases; has been elected to several honorary memberships and fellowships (AOA, ACP, AAN, ANA, Cambridge's Who's Who, Best Doctors, America's Top Doctors); has trained over 60 fellows in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease, a number of whom are currently leading academicians in Neurology and Neuromuscular disease; and has played a major role in recruiting several outstanding neuromuscular faculty to URMC.
