Megan K. Burns, M.D., M.A.

Professional Background

Dr. Burns received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry and her Master's Degree in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University in 2006. She received her Medical Degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2012. She completed her Internship at Geisinger Medical Center and completed her residency training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2017, where she received her certification in DaVinci robot-assisted surgery.

She pursued advanced training in gynecologic laparoscopy through a Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons Fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Camran Nezhat. Her fellowship had a strong emphasis in the evaluation and management of complicated endometriosis and advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques.

Following completion of her fellowship, she served on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2021, she relocated to the University of Rochester. She now serves as faculty in the Division of Urogynecology and practices in the Center for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Pelvic Pain.

Her interests include the endometriosis, pelvic adhesive disease, uterine fibroids, chronic pelvic pain, and care for transgender patients seeking gender-affirming case. She practices excisional surgery for advanced endometriosis, including multi-organ disease. She welcomes referrals for patients with complex gynecologic disease or those who may require a surgeon with advanced skills in laparoscopic gynecology, including robot-assisted laparoscopy.
