Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Kang is an experienced optometrist who provides comprehensive eye care with emphasis on ocular disease, low vision, and co-management with ophthalmology subspecialists. Prior to joining the faculty, she was in private practice at the Virginia Eye Institute, a multi-specialty ophthalmology and optometry practice located in the Richmond Metropolitan Area. She enjoys seeing a wide range of patients, from school-aged children to seniors.

Dr. Kang received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She then completed her optometry training at the New England College of Optometry, after which she completed an optometry residency in primary care and low vision therapy at Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She later became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. While with the Virginia Eye Institute, she became adept at co-managing patients with ophthalmologists and primary care physicians. Her personal goal is to treat every patient as if they were a family member. Services routinely performed by Dr. Kang include:

Contact lens prescribing and fitting
Cataract evaluation, referral and co-management
Diabetic eye disease screening
Low vision examinations and rehabilitative therapy
