Full spectrum of clinical experience in general gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. With an interest in clinical research, quality improvement, and medical education, Dr. Twohig has developed innovative tools for providers, students, and patients to improve care related to advanced liver disease and transplantation. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology's Professionalism Committee, and participates on multiple committees with the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and American Society of Transplantation.

Dr. Twohig has over 35 peer-reviewed publications including journal articles and textbook chapters. He serves as a peer reviewer for multiple high impact factor journals including the American Journal of Gastroenterology, BMC Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He is an abstract reviewer for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and American College of Gastroenterology annual meetings. He has received multiple awards for his research, including an AASLD Foundation Abstract Award (2023), University of Nebraska Fellowship Research Award (2023), Outstanding Research Award from the American College of Gastroenterology (2021), and the Research Excellence Award from MetroHealth Medical Center (2020). He has secured multiple educational grants toward his research at the institutional and industrial levels. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Twohig completed a Master's of Public Health and was a research coordinator at Toronto General Hospital.
