The UR Medicine Sleep Center is a multi-disciplinary sleep center under the Co-directorship of Joe Modrak, MD (Pulmonary) and Michael Yurcheshen, MD (Neurology). We have a one year fellowship in sleep medicine under the directorship of Dr. Yurcheshen. Dr. Modrak is in charge of training the pulmonary fellows during their rotations at the sleep center as well as medical residents and students who take electives here. Other faculty include Don Greenblatt, MD (Pulmonary), Jon Marcus, MD (Neurology), and Carolina Marcus, MD (Pulmonary/Allergy) and two clinical psychologists who staff our insomnia clinic. The Sleep Center has a separate pediatric facility with eight beds dedicated to pediatric patients under the guidance of Heidi Connolly, MD.
We have been involved in a number of clinical research studies including some looking at CPAP compliance, the feasibility of telemedicine for management of obstructive sleep apnea, several studies looking at sleep in Parkinson's Disease patients, a study of sodium oxybate (Xyrem) in patients with narcolepsy, and a number of studies of pediatric sleep disordered breathing.
