Initial Antibiotic Selection for CAP in Immunocompetent Patient, 2013-2014

Immunocompetent patients with pneumonia who receive an initial antibiotic regimen that is consistent with current guidelines. Antibiotics are medicines that treat infection, and each one is different. Hospitals should choose the antibiotic that best treat the infection type for each pneumonia patient.

Patients hospitalized with a principal diagnosis of pneumonia and died from any cause regardless of whether the patient dies while still in the hospital or after discharge. The 30-day mortality measures focus on Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) patients with a principal diagnosis of PN.

Pneumonia patients who had a recent stay in a hospital who were readmitted within 30 days of discharge to the same hospital, or to a different hospital or acute care facility. The 30-day readmission measures focus on Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) patients with a principal diagnosis of PN.
