American Board of Pediatrics Approved Efforts

The efforts listed below have been reviewed and approved by the UR Medicine MOC Program. Some projects apply to Multi-Specialty Program and some to the Pediatrics Specialty Board. Projects noted as active may have attestations submitted for MOC Part IV credit, given the physician meets all requirements of the Meaningful Participation Criteria. All attestations must be signed by the Project Lead(s) and include information regarding the physician’s individual involvement in the QI effort.

Pediatric Infection Prevention

Project Status: Ongoing
Brief Description: Hospital acquired infections cause serious morbidity and may result in increased LOS and/or unplanned readmissions. This effort is approved for inpatient providers interested in reducing central line bloodstream infections, urinary catheter infections, or surgical site infections.
Focused on: Hospitalized patients
Open to: Pediatrics
Measures: CLABSI rate, CAUTI rate, SSI rate
Required: Chart review of 5 infections with Infection Prevention nurses and then recommendation of system changes. Need to attend four one hour infection prevention meetings.

Community Based Asthma Care

Project Status: Ongoing
Brief Description: This can be done in either inpatient or outpatient setting. The inpatient setting focuses more on things like asthma symptom scores and the completion of asthma action plans. The outpatient setting focuses more on tools like the asthma control test and follow up after ED visits.
Focused on: Hospitalized patients, ambulatory patients
Open to: Pediatrics
Measures: Asthma Action Plan Compliance, Asthma Symptom Scoring, Asthma Control Test
Required: Chart review of 20 patients and then recommendation of systems change. Additional chart review after system change is implemented.

Prevention and Management of Pediatric Obesity

Project Status: Ongoing (Jan 2013 – Current)
Brief Description: Project is open to outpatient providers who are part of the learning collaborative.
Focused on: Ambulatory patients
Open to: Pediatrics – practices wo participate in the NYSDOH Finger Lakes Obesity Collaborative.
Measures: BMI, counseling documentation and follow up visits
Required: Chart review of 20 patients and then recommendation of systems change. Additional chart review after system change is implemented.
