Welcome from the Chair

Randall J. Kimple, MD, PhD, MBA, FASTRO

Welcome to the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. It is an honor to serve as the Philip Rubin Professor and Chair and to join a community whose commitment to excellence is captured so powerfully in our institutional motto: Meliora — ever better. This spirit resonates deeply with my own belief that the best cancer care emerges when scientific discovery, clinical innovation, and compassion move forward together.

Radiation oncology is entering a transformative era. Advances in technology, imaging, biology, and therapeutics are expanding what is possible for our patients at an extraordinary pace. My goal is to ensure that our department not only keeps pace with these developments but helps shape the future of our field.

Guided by the principle of Meliora, we will strengthen our research enterprise, expand our clinical trial portfolio, and foster collaborations that accelerate the translation of discovery into meaningful improvements in patient care.

Equally central to our mission is the education and mentorship of the next generation of clinicians and scientists. Training future leaders is one of our greatest responsibilities, and I am committed to cultivating an environment where curiosity is encouraged, innovation is supported, and every trainee feels empowered to grow.

Our faculty and staff are the foundation of this work, and I look forward to supporting their development and celebrating their achievements as we build a culture that strives to be ever better in all we do.

Together, we will elevate our department’s role in advancing discovery, strengthening multidisciplinary care, and delivering the most innovative and compassionate treatments to the patients and families we serve.

Best regards,

Randy Kimple, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A
