Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) and Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) Programs

The University of Rochester is proud to support faculty nominations on an annual basis to these prestigious leadership development programs. An internal selection process determines each year’s nominee(s).

About ELAM and ELH

Since its inception in 1995, the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program has provided a rigorous one-year fellowship focused on leadership development for women, which now has expanded to any gender.  The program includes comprehensive coaching, networking, and mentoring initiatives designed to enhance the presence of qualified leaders in academic medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy on the national scale.

The ELAM program is designed for faculty who are at the associate or full professor level, identified as having significant potential to step into executive leadership roles at academic health centers within the next five years.  While advancing within executive ranks at AHCs is its primary goal, ELAM also encourages graduates to pursue diverse leadership opportunities across their organizations.

The Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) program, founded in 2022, is designed for senior-level leaders of all genders, interested in advancing in hospitals and health care systems to positions such as CEO, CMO and CFO. The ELH track focus is on clinical operations and health care delivery.
