Teen Anti-Violence Alliance (TAVA)

T.A.V.A.

TAVA Ambassadors lead peer-to-peer mentoring, workshops, and media campaigns to raise awareness and drive change. They use their voice and creativity to make our community stronger.

Become an Ambassador

The Teen Anti-Violence Alliance (TAVA) is a youth-led professional development and community engagement program supported by the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). TAVA is the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery’s leading outreach initiative addressing violence through education, empowerment, community outreach, and opportunity.

TAVA trains student ambassadors in leadership and professional skills, including CPR, Narcan, and Stop the Bleed, with the goal that ambassadors return to their communities and serve as anti-violence leaders and educators in their own circles.

TAVA is also a multimedia engagement initiative with presence on Instagram and TikTok. In YouTube, our TAVA Podcast leads important conversations about health, community, and violence. TAVA leverages the University of Rochester’s partnerships and resources, such as the Center for Community Health & Prevention, the Department of Surgery, the Teen Health & Success Office, among others. TAVA connects youth to pathways for education and employment, the two most effective tools to prevent violence in our communities.
