Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Who We Are
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at URMC is one of the nation’s leaders in discovery, application and teaching within a dynamic field.
The department is comprised of the following:
Operation of UR Medicine Labs clinical laboratories, which offers a wide range of anatomic and clinical pathology services.
Extramurally-funded research projects including basic, translational and clinical studies.
Residency training and fellowships in anatomic/clinical pathology, as well as graduate and postdoctoral pathology training.
Operation of the URMC FDA-compliant UR Central Labs devoted to research and clinical trials testing.
Can a Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine be both state-of-the-art and push the envelope in its mission to educate, research, and provide clinical and anatomic pathology services?
Yes. It’s what we do, every day.
We are committed to advancing innovations of pathology across patient care: in diagnostic services, in educating medical students and lab professionals, in researching new pathology methods and analyses, and collaborating with other health care providers to share clinical expertise.
Our faculty and staff are committed to providing exceptional consultation, lab results, research, and education. I’m proud that our anatomic and clinical pathology labs are led by one or more nationally recognized subspecialty experts who prioritize lab excellence and customer satisfaction.
In education, our pledge is to provide the best possible learning environment for medical students, residents, fellows, medical technicians, and graduate students. We are expanding our subspecialty education opportunities, and strengthening our residency training rotations.
I’m committed to growing our research initiatives and synergistic collaborations with other medical disciplines. We are creating a new division of experimental pathology. And, we continue to partner with other URMC departments, the Golisano Children’s Hospital, Wilmot Cancer Center, and regional community hospitals that rely on our clinical expertise.
