We have dozens of patient service centers throughout the region, some with weekend hours. Our labs are staffed 24/7 by laboratory professionals and customer service representatives.

Additional Test Information
Fine needle aspirations are a safer and less traumatic alternative to biopsies requiring surgery. Fine needle aspiration is not only less invasive, it is also less expensive, reduces the risk of complications and provides faster recovery times.
In this procedure, a needle is inserted into the lump or lesion. A slight suction is applied, drawing some cells out of the mass. Those cells can then be immediately examined, and results are typically available within 15 minutes.
At UR Medicine Labs, all aspects of fine needle aspirations are managed by a pathologist specially trained in these techniques. Examination of your cells will be performed through various methods such as immunocytochemistry or electron microscopy.
Our pathologists are available to perform fine needle aspirations Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM and at other times by special arrangement. Outpatients can be referred to a room here in our clinic. For inpatients, a pathologist can come directly to the patient's room.
Lab Test Directory
Our Laboratory Test Menu includes all in-house and send-out tests offered by UR Medicine Labs. It is a reference tool for test ordering, specimen type and volume, special instructions, delivery information, as well as reference ranges that include units of measure.
What Sets Us Apart?
Whether gaining a better understanding of how diseases work, aiding in the discovery of new treatments, or educating future pathologists, we are always supporting medicine of the highest order.
Our labs are directed by nationally and internationally recognized certified pathologists and clinical scientists in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions
This depends on what tests are ordered. Most routine outpatient tests are reported to your physician within 24 hours. Microbiology and specialty testing may take several days to several weeks.
It is best to obtain your lab results directly from your health care provider. That way, your results can be explained by the person who knows your clinical history best.
We help our patients on a first come, first served basis, and we always do our best to have you in and out within 20 minutes. However, our busiest time is from 8-10 am in the morning, so if possible, it is best to come at other times of the day. To help you with scheduling, we have several sites that are open later in the evening or on weekends. We also have one site in Brighton that takes appointments.
Our phlebotomists are highly trained, and they take pride in making the process as pleasant and pain-free as possible. If having your blood drawn makes you nervous, talk to your phlebotomist. This can help us find a way to make things more comfortable for you.
While it isn’t necessary for you to use the same lab all of the time, it can be beneficial to you and to those who provide your medical care. When you use UR Medicine Labs consistently, all of your lab results are consolidated into a single place where your doctors can review them at regular intervals, if needed.
Most labs process several thousand patient samples each day. By asking for your name and other information several times, we help ensure that you always get the correct lab results. This is an important part of our quality assurance.
We will only draw the minimum amount of blood required. However, different tests often require separate tubes of blood.
If you have questions about your insurance policy coverage or deductibles that may apply to lab work, please call your insurance carrier. For other questions related to your lab bill, please call the Patient Accounts department at (585) 758-7650 or toll free (800) 544-0877.
