100 Years of Impact

Serving the Community »

  • community outreachFor the last 100 years, helping people in our community who cannot afford care has been an important part of our mission and service.
  • We treat patients in nine counties in several locations. In 2014, we had 135,124 patient visits.
  • Through innovative approaches to care, such as teledentistry, we've partnered with  many organizations to serve people who otherwise wouldn't receive care.
  • In 1967, we established the state's first dental mobile unit, helping underserved children in the city and rural areas.
  • Physicians and dentists throughout New York refer patients to Eastman specialists to treat those with medically complex conditions, special needs such as developmental disabilities, older adults with unique challenges, babies born with cleft lip and palate,  and chronic oral pain.

World Renowned Education »

Each year, more than 1,000 dentists from around the world apply for 50 open first-year positions in one of our general dentistry and specialty, postdoctoral training programs. These programs have equipped graduates for careers in education, research, public health and private practice.

We train dentists to be specialists in: Advanced and Hospital-based General Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orofacial Pain & TMJ Disorders. We also provide advanced training on oral health treatment for people with special needs, such as seniors, and people with cancer, HIV,  developmental disabilities, among many other conditions.

  • research photo Research is an important focus of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and has led to important breakthrough discoveries.
  • EIOH has consistently ranked in the top 10 for NIH oral biology and dental research funding. Our scientists continue to gain international attention for their work.

International Influence »

  • Hundreds of people from around the world graduate from our program and carry the expertise and community outreach to their home countries.
  • George Eastman also established dental dispensaries in England, Italy, Sweden, Brussels and Paris.
  • We are partnering with universities in China, Japan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to train faculty.
