UR Pathway Programs

  • The MSTP Summer Scholars program is a unique opportunity for undergraduates interested in pursuing combined MD/PhD training in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Rochester. A small group of trainees is selected from a large national pool of applicants to participate in this 10-week, hands-on experience. The program includes 20-30 hours of clinical shadowing experience with a University of Rochester physician-scientist and an independent research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
  • The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) is a 10-week academic program designed to strengthen selected college students' science, clinical, and research skills to enhance their competitiveness for careers in medicine and the biomedical sciences. SURF participants are chosen from a national pool of candidates with a demonstrated vision and commitment to improving diverse patient populations' health through patient care, research, and teaching. Program participants conduct focused research in a medical center laboratory under the mentorship of faculty.
