“The scholarship of engagement means connecting the rich resources of the university to our most pressing social, civic and ethical problems, to our children, to our schools, to our teachers and to our cities…”
~Ernest Boyer in “The Scholarship of Engagement”
The Student Bridge for Community Engagement Committee (BRIDGES) is an interdisciplinary group of faculty and staff from the various entities from across the University of Rochester who work cooperatively to provide students with community-engaged educational experiences. These offerings are meant to help students to understand community needs and stakeholder perspectives and to see the importance of using evidence-based approaches and adding to the evidence through rigorous evaluation. Our goal is to prepare students, faculty, and staff to work effectively to support community-driven initiatives that are beneficial to both community groups and the university.
Membership includes representatives from several UR institutions, including the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering, School of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Nursing, Warner School of Education, and the Memorial Art Gallery.
