1-Year Non-Categorical OMFS Internship

A 1-year internship is offered to candidates interested in pursuing an OMFS residency position who desire additional training to enhance their education and strengthen their resume. The internship provides robust clinical and didactic training applicable to a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Interns function at the PGY-1 level with clinic and on-call responsibilities, are involved in the care of all OMFS inpatients, and are given opportunities to participate in OR cases. They attend all didactic departmental conferences and spend 4 weeks on an anesthesia rotation. Interns interested in scholarly activities are also included in ongoing research projects.

This internship program is NOT accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Possess a DDS or DMD degree from a CODA-accredited dental school in the U.S. or Canada
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Licensed to practice as a dentist in New York State - please see the NYS Office of the Professions website for details

Stipend and Benefits

Interns receive a stipend at the PGY-1 level and are eligible for benefits.

Candidates must also send the following items to the Residency Program Coordinator at Lisa_Lord@URMC.Rochester.edu, as part of their application:

  • Undergraduate transcript
  • Dental school transcript and verification of successful completion
  • Current CV
  • Letter of recommendation
  • NBME CBSE report (if available)
  • 2x2 photo
