The Preceptorship Program at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health is an immersive opportunity for dentists seeking to enhance their clinical expertise through a balanced combination of didactic learning and hands-on experience. Participants will engage in a broad range of educational activities, including seminars, workshops, conferences, and research projects, all designed to refine their skills and knowledge in the field of dentistry.

The program offers 6, 11, and 12-month preceptorships in the following specialized areas:

  • General Dentistry
  • Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (11 and 12 months only)
  • Periodontics
  • Prosthodontics

This dynamic program offers a comprehensive learning experience that fosters both academic and clinical growth in the dental field, making it a valuable opportunity for dentists who wish to elevate their practice and expertise. We hope you will choose to apply.

Program Highlights

As a preceptor, you will:

  • Observe Clinical Practices: Gain firsthand experience in daily clinical operations at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
  • Assist Chairside: Alongside our residents and faculty, learn essential dental skills in a real-world clinical setting.
  • Enroll in Graduate-Level Courses: Participate in courses taken by first-year residents, deepening your theoretical and practical knowledge of dentistry.
  • Visa Sponsorship: International applicants requiring visa sponsorship will be provided the necessary documentation to apply for an F-1 Student Visa.

Eligibility and Admissions Requirements

Please see our Eligibility and Admissions Requirements page for details about the general requirements for EIOH programs, including English Language Proficiency Requirements for those who earned their dental degree outside the U.S. and Canada.

Applicants must have completed a DDS, DMD or equivalent degree (e.g. BDS) prior to applying, and a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale is required.

Application Deadlines

  • January 1: For a July 1 start date (applicable to 6-month, 11-month, and 12-month preceptorships)
  • August 1: For a January 1 start date (applicable to 6-month preceptorships)

Program Tuition and Other Expenses

Please visit the Tuition and Fees webpage for more information on the costs associated with the program. Applicants should note that scholarships and financial assistance are not available for preceptorships.

It is important to plan for the following expenses, in addition to the tuition and mandatory fees:
