Lynn Liu, M.D.
Program Director

We offer an ACGME-accredited epilepsy fellowship program based at the UR Medicine Epilepsy Center and  Pediatric Epilepsy Program, Level 4 National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC).  Our strength is our multidisciplinary team including adult and pediatric board-certified epileptologists, neurosurgeon, psychosocial team, and dietician. The center is housed within Strong Memorial Hospital in its academic neurology department widely regarded as one of the top Departments of Neurology in the country. Our clinical and investigative interests include global health, treatment of seizures in brain tumor patients, and surgical and alternative therapies for the management of epilepsy.

We have a flexible curriculum. Fellows can divide their time on interpreting inpatient long term video EEG, managing the in-patient epilepsy service and doing research. We encourage fellows to schedule electives to enhance their career goals. Strong Memorial Hospital fellows receive at least three weeks of vacation per year and additional time may be allowed for attendance at scientific or medical meetings.  There is support to attend national meetings if the fellow is presenting their work.

What Our Fellows Say...

Tollefson

"From the trainee perspective, the epilepsy fellowship at the University of Rochester was an excellent fit for me.  The faculty, and the Department of Neurology as a whole, were friendly, welcoming, and collegial.  I enjoyed the passion for education that was apparent throughout the faculty.  I found an appropriate number of complex cases that allowed me to grow as an epileptologist.  The curriculum was well-designed with an appropriate mix of structure and flexibility to pursue my own academic pursuits."

"All-in-all, the fellowship did an excellent job preparing me for a career as an academic epileptologist.  From a faculty member’s perspective, I have enjoyed working with our fellows who arrive with an eagerness to learn.  I have also enjoyed working on expanding the curriculum, adding neurostimulation clinics to the fellowship experience.  It has been wonderful working in a close-knit department that is very supportive in helping me achieve my career goals.  Lastly, Rochester has been a wonderful city in which to settle and raise a family."
