Message from the Director
Alec O'Connor, MD
Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency programs at the University of Rochester—we are extremely proud of them!
Our residents learn by seeing a diverse patient population supported by outstanding faculty in an academically rigorous, collegial, and fun learning environment. Our residency has a number of unique strengths, including cutting-edge ambulatory training; a rich, collaborative research environment; and a tremendous group of residents. In addition, Rochester was recently ranked #1 of 306 communities for providing healthcare at the lowest cost per Medicare beneficiary, which helps our residents learn to practice very high value care. Our residents also benefit from the Rochester community itself, which is a wonderfully livable moderate-sized city offering a broad range of cultural and outdoor activities, including easy access to New York State's beautiful Finger Lakes region.
We offer three-year positions in Categorical Internal Medicine, three-year Primary Care Medicine positions, two-year Categorical positions in the ABIM Research Pathway, and Preliminary Internal Medicine positions; each of these programs is described in detail in this website. With the Department of Pediatrics, we also share responsibility for the Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Program. Information regarding applying to any of these programs can be found on our Applicant Information Page. Explore this website to begin to learn about what makes Rochester truly unique.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
