Maternal Child Health

Our Maternal Child Health Research aligns with the life course perspective: Pregnancy and maternal health contribute to later life health and disease for both the mother and child. PHS faculty focus on a variety of determinants and outcomes related to pregnancy and early childhood, both domestically and internationally. These focal areas include: exposure to environmental toxicants and their effects on fetal growth, the developing immune system, and neurodevelopment; pregnancy related weight gain; maternal and infant nutrition; opioid use during pregnancy; and racial/ethnic disparities in pregnancy outcomes.
