We invite you to see whether our program is right for you.

Welcome To Our Program

Rabih Salloum MD

The General Surgery Residency Program is designed to develop exceptional, well-rounded, professionally sought-after leaders in surgery. Our integrated five-year training program offers a unique combination of surgical practice, complemented by both basic science and clinical research to achieve an unparalleled level of excellence in all aspects of the care of the surgical patient. All of our graduates have been exposed to basic science, clinical investigation and broad based comprehensive practical experience – leading to improved surgical practices and the most effective care a patient could hope for.

I am delighted to be associated with this fine program, and I'm confident you will be too. Our program is thorough and our standards are rigorous. But the men and women who graduate from our General Surgery Residency Program are commonly recognized as being among the finest surgeons in the United States. The overwhelming majority of our graduates who have sought subspecialty training have been accepted in the most competitive fellowships in the country.

If there is anything you would like to know more about, or if you have any questions, after examining the information that's provided here, please feel free to contact us. We appreciate your interest in the University of Rochester Medical Center's General Surgery Residency Program.

Our Facilities

Our general surgery residents have access to surgical facilities at three Rochester hospitals, as well as private practice clinics staffed and operated by URMC physicians and faculty.

Strong Memorial Hospital offers one of the largest, best equipped surgical facilities in the nation. The up-to-date facilities of affiliated Highland Hospital concentrate on bariatric, breast and a number of other procedures, conducted in a more intimate setting. Rochester General Hospital is a 528-bed acute care teaching facility that offers a variety of opportunities in gastrointestinal surgery and surgical endoscopy.

Many of the physicians in the Department of Surgery have private-practice clinics, where a wide variety of procedures suited to an out-patient model are conducted.
