What Sets Us Apart

Flexible Curriculum

Surgical residents gain expertise in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients with general surgical diseases under the guidance of expert faculty.

Clinical Practice

We believe that exposure to a large, diverse patient population and broad exposure to complex open and minimally invasive surgeries are crucial to the training of outstanding surgeons.

Life of a URMC Resident

What Our Residents Say...

carla

"I was attracted to the University of Rochester General Surgery Residency  for many reasons and it was my very last interview. First, the resident camaraderie was obvious; I had not encountered a group of residents that loved each other more than this group. Second, residents had a record of matching into outstanding fellowships. And third, I was eager to do research with a pre-existing group with resources while also obtaining my Master of Public Health which was available through SHORE."

"The program fully supports research and education endeavors. Our attending are collegial and I’m lucky to call many of them my mentors."
