roof repair and maintenance project is scheduled from Monday, June 22, through Friday, July 24.

A roof repair and maintenance project is scheduled from Monday, June 22, through Friday, July 24. The work outlined below is necessary to preserve the integrity of the building infrastructure and protect it from weather-related damage.
From Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, gravel will be removed from a hospital rooftop using an industrial vacuum system.

Safety Measures to be Implemented

With safety as a priority, a temporary staging area will be set up in the parking area and sidewalk along Mt. Vernon Avenue. Pedestrian traffic will not be allowed in the staging area, which will be enclosed with construction fencing. Privacy screening will minimize its visual impact on nearby residents. A portion of Mt. Vernon Avenue may be temporarily reduced to one lane. Construction crew members will be available to assist in directing traffic as needed.
The industrial vacuum, equipment needed to haul away the gravel, and a crane will be contained within the staging area.

Gravel Removal and Repurposing

The gravel is suctioned from the rooftop, collected, and hauled away. When in use, the vacuum produces elevated operational noise. The vacuum will be paused intermittently throughout this work while the collected gravel is taken to other University of Rochester Medicine locations for reuse on other projects.
We expect to end the use of the vacuum by Friday, June 26.
Other activities, which include power washing and the application of a low-odor, environmentally friendly coating system, will be performed simultaneously to minimize the duration of this project.
An extended-boom forklift will be utilized throughout the project to load and off-load materials to/from the roofs.
None of the project activities cause strong odors or dust.

Low Impact Activities

From Friday, July 10, through Friday, July 24, the crane will be moved to a location within the hospital grounds facing Rockingham Street, but away from the road. Construction crew members will remain onsite, mostly within our campus. During this phase of the project, you may notice a temporary increase in the number of debris removal vehicles on campus.

Please note that this schedule is dependent on the weather. Inclement weather may affect the timing of this work, and weekend work may be necessary.

We understand that temporary noise, sidewalk closures, and traffic adjustments cause inconveniences and can be disruptive. We are taking every measure to minimize the impact and complete the work as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience as we update aging components of our hospital and ensure we continue to meet current safety and regulatory standards.
